Although Reiki and the rest of energy healing modalities involves human touch, and touch is consider to produce tissue stimulation and that’s exactly the basic definition of massage, however, energy healing modalities are NOT a form of massage. During energy healing treatments clients are full clothed and the healer just places their hands in the clients body with a featherlike touch. So Reiki and other Energy healing modalities are not a type of massage therapy.

Does Reiki works with meridians similar to acupuncture?
Yes, Reiki works with the chakra system, and the chakras take in energy from the universe and this energy have a direct effect in the acupuncture meridian system.
Although I think that acupuncture works in the lower levels of our energy field. Thus Reiki works also in higher levels of our energy field.
How is Reiki different from other energy healing modalities?
It is the initiation process that sets Reiki apart from other forms of hands-on energy work. Inherent in the Reiki initiation is the intention that healing always happen for the highest good.
To become a Reiki practitioner one gets training from a Reiki master, or teacher. The training includes receiving initiations and learning specific information and, or attunements.
It is believed that Reiki sacred symbols were “received” or “channeled” by Dr. Mikao Usui in an enlightening meditation. The same symbols that are used in attunements are used in Reiki treatments, but in a different order. Their purpose is to concentrate the attention and intention of the Reiki energy.
What is a Reiki Initiation?
Reiki practitioners go through a process called attunement, or initiations in which a Reiki Master performs a procedure to open up the student’s energy system to increased energy flow and power. To perform attunements, the teacher uses sacred symbols in specific sequence, together with visualizations and breathing patterns. They sacred Reiki symbols have Japanese names, and are derived from Japanese and Sanskrit characters.
The purpose of attunements is to allow the future Reiki practitioner to conduct or transmit the energy of Reiki to assist in the healing. Each attunement which are ceremonies, with a joint meditation by teacher and student, during which the student is receptive, and the teacher is “tuning” the student’s energy centers to the Reiki energy, or universal energy of love and compassion After receiving the attunements, the student becomes capable of transmitting this energy through his or her energy centers in the head, chest and palms to the client.
What are the Mechanics of a Reiki Session?
The client is lying down fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner tunes in and opens up to connect to the energy source, to transmit or channel energy from the universal energy field into the human energy field, where the energy is transmuted into a form that is usable at the cellular level. The healer places and moves their hands in a sequence of positions on the clients body. The healer hands are held palms downward with the fingers and thumbs extended. The healer works from head to toe with a light featherlike touch over the body.
Reiki treatments can be performed in person or long distance. During the healing the healer places his or her hands in specific positions on or above the client’s body, and allows Reiki (universal energy) to assist in the clients healing. Silence or music appropriate for meditation is considered essential to the treatment.
During the long distant healing the healer focuses on the client, using Reiki symbols and the client’s name (and picture), and allows Reiki to assist in healing. It is believed that length of distance between the Reiki practitioner and the client does not affect the efficacy of treatment, similarly to the presumed effect of prayer.
How Does Reiki Works?
A high vibrational energy is created through the channelling of REIKI energy that produces an entrainment effect in the human electromagnetic field, also known as energy system or aura. This allows lower vibrational patterns such as repressed feelings, thoughts, pain,…. to be permanently transformed into a higher vibrational energy. This process creates balance in the clients energy system, which will be reflected in all the aspect of their life.
Reiki is very relaxing and associated with brainwave patterns present during periods of meditation. It can be used to accelerate healing of injuries and recovery from illness, and can be used to accompany any other health care treatments or spiritual interventions.
The Reiki treatment highlights the truth about healing: that the power and the responsibility for healing lies within the individual.
The healer brings intention and commitment to the process, but the healer does not do the healing for the client. Reiki empowers the receiver to do the healing that needs to be done on all levels of being. It works to enhance and accelerate the normal healing processes of the body and the mind. Through Reiki you achieve balance, when the body is in balance it can heal itself.
It is believed that during the treatment the client’s body (energy system) “draws” the necessary healing energy and distributes it according to its needs. That is why “overdosing” of energy, or transmitting the “wrong” kind of energy is not possible during Reiki treatments.
Since the healer does not use his or her own energy, but transmits from the universal energy field, the energy never gets depleted and, after giving the treatment, the healer usually feels better and stronger as well.
What is Reiki?
Reiki origins are found in the Tibetan sutras, ancient records of cosmology and philosophy. We believe that Reiki has been with humanity always. Reiki is an energy healing system that was re-discovered by a Japanese monk named Mikao Usui (1865-1926)
The word Reiki can be divided in two REI & KI:
REI is a Japanese word that means, higher power or Universal energy and KI means life-force energy.
Reiki is a holistic energy healing modality based on Eastern concepts of energy flow. Energy is constantly flowing throughout the universe, and Reiki connects humans in a more direct way to the universal source.
Reiki is a way of transmitting or channeling energy from the Universal energy field into the energy field of any living organism. It is an ancient healing art of energy transmission through the use of intention and specific sacred symbols.
Reiki facilitates transformation on multiple levels assists in the restoration of balance on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual levels of all living creatures.
The life-force energy is the essence that gives vitality to form. Ancient civilizations understood that this life-force energy flowed through the body, supporting optimal health. The Chinese identified this energy as chi, the Indians called it prana, and the Japanese knew it as ki
Reiki is increasingly used as a powerful addition to conventional medical care, both in and out of hospital settings. During “hands-on” or distant Reiki treatments the client usually experience relaxation and peacefulness and may feel warmth and other subtle and pleasant sensations.
While Reiki and other energy healing modalities, are based upon spiritual and metaphysical principles, they have been validated by science.
