What are the Mechanics of a Reiki Session?

The client is lying down fully clothed on a massage table. The Reiki practitioner tunes in and opens up to connect to the energy source, to transmit or channel energy from the universal energy field into the human energy field, where the energy is transmuted into a form that is usable at the cellular level. The healer places and moves their hands in a sequence of positions on the clients body. The healer hands are held palms downward with the fingers and thumbs extended. The healer works from head to toe with a light featherlike touch over the body.

Reiki treatments can be performed in person or long distance. During the healing the healer places his or her hands in specific positions on or above the client’s body, and allows Reiki (universal energy) to assist in the clients healing. Silence or music appropriate for meditation is considered essential to the treatment.

During the long distant healing the healer focuses on the client, using Reiki symbols and the client’s name (and picture), and allows Reiki to assist in healing. It is believed that length of distance between the Reiki practitioner and the client does not affect the efficacy of treatment, similarly to the presumed effect of prayer.
